It seems that large format photographers have more problem with the wind than most others. The longer exposures that we have to make in order gather enough light means that we are often opening the shutter for one or two seconds. With the added amount of detail a large format camera can capture any movement in that one or two seconds can make subjects unacceptably soft. So.. the large format landscape photographer can often be seen standing perfectly still, staring at their subject and waiting for the perfect moment when the wind dies down to nothing and the subject (in this case my branch with the read leaves) stops swaying. In this case, I took five exposures over the space of thirty minutes trying to capture just the right moment in time when everything was peaceful. Only one picture worked, capturing the branch with the red leaves in the foreground, the beautifully toned white tree and finally the expanse of fern leaves as a canvas on which all of this sits. This has to be one of my favourite photographs just for the simplicity and colour.
