Joe Cornish talks about Peter Dombrovskis
One of the reasons I upgraded to the Canon 5Dmk2 (apart from very nice screen on the back and a couple of extra pixels) was to start creating some video content. I've already posted a couple of sample videos on developing your own colour transparencies and also a practise run creating content in the field which let me get used to the technology (including Final Cut Pro to post process the video). Now that I'm experienced enough not to embarras myself I wanted to record an interview with another landscape photographer. And what better photographer to start with than Joe Cornish, one of mine and many others primary influences. I was visiting Joe to talk about another project and we agreed it would be interesting to see what we could do. So, here is the results of our first test. The edits are a bit rough and ready and I have learned a lot whilst setting this up. I think the content and Joe's delivery more than makes up for the recording quality. Don't forget you can click on the 'HD' button to get better quality and you can also click on the icon at the bottom right of the video to view it full screen. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it and if you have any suggestions for topics or photographers you would like to see included in the future, please let me know.
A big thanks for Joe for woking with me on this. If all goes well we will do this more often.

Such a good idea, the video is a far more descriptive way of communication of ideas...and some great nuggets of information...(see you on Tuesday at 8ish) J

This was extremely enjoyable for me. The unscripted HD video about Peter Dombrovskis' work was excellent. I found that the discussion and interaction between both Joe and Tim was truly from the heart and very well enlightened from their own landscape photographer's perspective.

Many thanks Tim (and Joe) for giving us an insight into Peter's work. Oh dear I can see I'm now going to have to spend more money on trying to obtain his books.

Tim, just to echo the comments already posted to thank you and Joe for your generosity in putting this together. Very much enjoyed it and look forward to any future videos. The only problem now is that I am going to have to find more space on the photography shelves...

Good video, pretty insightful.
(You must go through a fair amount of golden syrup by the look of it Tim!)

Nothing less than a service to the nation. Well done and thanks to everyone.
As for other interviews, I suggest you stay with people who have spent a lot of time thinking about their art. I would like to hear what Kyriakos (KK) has to say.
Best regards, Charles

Hi Tim
Thanks to both of you for this - the images are truly beautiful. Do you have any recommendations on how we could get hold of copies of the books?
Thanks
Paul

Wateched this yesterday - same day that another 'leading light' was on breakfast TV promoting exhibition in London - perhaps not a fair comparison, but the TP/JC double act make for much more compulsive viewing. I look forward to episode 2!

Many thanks Tim and Joe for doing this, very interesting and a great inspiration on a very dull and wet day! Looking forward to future episodes...
(I did try the HD version but it didn't play - went direct to Vimeo and think it might be a permissions problem?)

Tim and Joe,
I can't believe you didn't include a warning that the video contained flashy images. After 5 minutes I was foaming at the mouth and after 12 minutes I had to be physically restrained. You've deflated my already fragile ego by showing such top class work.
Perhaps you could discuss LPOTY vol3 or better still Harry Cory Wright then at least I could sleep better.
Proceed with caution!

Wow! The feedback on this has been amazing and has prompted myself and Joe to get together soon and to produce some more. I also talked to Anna Booth who agreed to an interview and feature at some point (I don't think she realises that she is going to be video'd yet - hi Anna!) As far as the Peter Dombrovskis books go Joe is trying to find out the best way to get hold of them. There is also a wonderful video called Wildness which documents the story of Peter and Olegas Truchanas that Joe lent to me which I think is available via ABC TV Australia but I can't find a link to it.. I've contacted ABC directly so hopefully it will turn up. In the meantime, if you really want to get some Dombrovskis, try Alibris or Abe Books or Book Repository

Dear Joe & Tim
Peter's work has been an inspiration for us all. It trancends issues of technology, technique and location and touches us on almost a spritual level. It is an amazing legacy to committment to the preservation and celebration of environment and wilderness.
I have been lucky enough to grow up immersed in these images, but have never thought about them in the insightful, brilliant and heartfelt way that joe has presented in this piece. thank you both!
Rock Island Bend is a testament to the power of landscape photography - it presented a powerful image of what was about to be lost and was a pivotal part of changing Tasmanian and Australian politics - and stopped the damming of the Franklin River!
While i often turn to Peters work for inspiration, i more frequently open Joe's Working with Light or First light for inspiration - thank you Joe!
For more Dombrovskis visit www.peterdombrovskis.com
Also has some links for books etc
Thank you both again
Cheers from the deep south

Romans 1:20
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse
Its amazing how photographers get so engrossed into worshiping 'nature'... yet turn away and not give glory to its creator.
To see such beauty and unearth so much order within it...yet ignore Him.
Nice pictures that show the awesome hand of a loving God, and a man given a gift to show case it.. even if he didnt acknowledge Christ himself.
Video is good for a first. Im expecting a lot more video from photographers over the years now its so much easier to do.

Thanks Tim and Joe. The Video was both inspiring and very imformative, Joe has a way of breaking down an image which is both enlighting and intrinsic. I thoroughly enjoyed the video and look forward to seeing and learning more.
Thank you.

Thankyou so much Tim and Jo for this inspirational clip. I have been an avid fan of Peter's work for many years and had always collected his beautiful postcards from the wilderness Society's shops. Sadly, now, it is harder to find copies of the books, posters and cards.
Your clip has been a wonderful opportunity to indulge in some of his images. The learning you also offer in your dialogue is precious!! Thankyou!!

An inspiring video. Great work, and am looking forward to seeing some more. Peter used one graphmatic film pack, and apparently reloaded in his sleeping bag. He also went for walks that went on for weeks. Stating that it would take him three days to get in touch with the wilderness before being able to take such wonderful photographs. He is definitely my hero...
