Nigel Halliwell
I met Nigel Halliwell during Light and Land’s Discovery Day in 2008 after being very impressed by his Large Format photographs that he had published in the Light and Land books. I worked with him to create a website that could really promote his work and in return he helped me learn about using the large format camera in the field. Nigel’s pictures continue to be a surprise and pleasure any time he puts new work up. I’m posting this to introduce those who have not seen his work to a wonderful photographer.
Visit his website (for which I can take a small amount of credit) at http://www.nigelhalliwell.com
The image to the right is one of my favourite pictures of late and one that I’m quite jealous of (but don’t tell Nigel that!)

I declare myself a virtual fan. I haven’t met Nigel but really appreciate his work (I think I must have been looking at his website since the time you finished designing it) – there is, in my view, a very clear style to his work, each composition perfectly composed for the 5X4 perspective. I find his compositions very bold with strong features/designs whether the view is intricate or expansive. I simply wish there is more of his work on the website – is there more?
I remember watching Countryfile a couple of months ago on a Sunday evening and was shocked to hear that he was going to be on. It was just after the DW/JC Breakfast Club experience. Perhaps, the media will promote photographers to celebrity status after all…….
BTW – I think I’m jealous full stop…..there are many personal favourites in Nigel’s collection. As I am a big fan of movement in the landscape, I think his image of Burbage Brook is stunning.
It was really nice to see landscape photography feature so prominently (especially large format!). I thought Nigel did a fantastic job too – a natural for tele!
…and I had the pleasure of getting advice from Nigel on last year’s trip to Death Valley & the Sierras – it was good to have him around! A thoughtful, clever and entertaining photographer. Oh yes, he takes decent pictures too. Rgds., Adam
Hello Tim this was a pleasent surprise (how much do I owe you). Thanks a lot for your kind words indeed and also to David and Adam, and to keep the Wolves at bay for a short while at least there are some "New Images" from the Peak District, hope they come up to scratch!!
Lovely find Tim! I often find it difficult to pick out such details in the landscape – it is so tempting to go for the ‘grand scenic.’
Thanks for the comment on http://www.landscapephotographyonline.com/
May I ask how you discovered the site?
Kind Regards,
Steve
Hi Stephen,
I was doing a Google search for ‘landscape photography’ using the new temporal options (i.e. in the last week) and also UK filtered..
Love that picture of the Col de la Ponsoniere
